Design: Perhaps no player in the history of the game is as embedded into the fabric of a city as Maradona is in Naples.
In July 1984, Maradona was greeted by 80,000 trophy-starved Neapolitans at the Stadio San Paolo. For a time, it was the perfect match: Maradona needed a home and Naples needed a saviour.
His arrival sparked the most successful period in the clubs history. Led by Maradona, Napoli won their first ever Serie-A Italian Championship in 1986–87. After finishing runners up in the following two seasons ‘Gli Azzurri’ secured a further Scudetto in 89-90 along with the UEFA Cup, Copa Italia and Italian Super-Cup.
Whilst Maradona left Napes for Sevilla in 1992 under a cloud of controversy, he is one of the few players whose legend has been elevated over time and whose influence penetrates the very fabric of the city to this day.
